September 2, 2026265 views

This article examines the relationship between spatial planning regulations, sustainable development, and the implementation of the SDGs in Indonesia. The research aims to explain how the principles, objectives, and instruments of spatial planning can be integrated with the sustainability agenda, while also identifying the legal and governance challenges that remain. Using a qualitative literature review method and an interpretative-integrative approach, this article examines scientific literature and related regulations. The study results indicate that sustainable spatial planning requires normative coherence, institutional capacity, participatory legitimacy, robust geospatial data, and an orientation towards spatial justice, climate resilience, ecosystem protection, and the achievement of the SDGs. The implication is that spatial planning reform needs to go beyond rule harmonization towards strengthening risk-based control, restorative law enforcement, data interoperability, and meaningful public participation.
