The Role of Education in Advancing Sustainable Practices in the Palm Oil Industry: A Review

The oil palm industry faces global pressure related to environmental and social impacts, making education viewed as a strategic instrument to promote sustainable practices. This study aims to analyze the role of educational interventions in enhancing the adoption of sustainability in the palm oil sector through a systematic literature review method of 38 scientific articles (2022–2025). The results show that formal education, technical training, community learning, and digital platforms significantly contribute to increasing awareness, behavior, and compliance with sustainability standards. Its effectiveness is influenced by local relevance, program continuity, and stakeholder engagement. The implication is that education needs to be integrated into industry policy and governance to drive sustainable transformation.
