Computational Approaches to Sustainable Palm Oil Supply Chain Management: A Systematic Literature Review of Engineering and Economic Perspectives
This research is motivated by the complexity of the global oil palm supply chain, which involves numerous actors, production stages, and demands for efficiency and sustainability. The study aims to systematically synthesize the use of computational approaches in palm oil supply chain management by integrating technical and economic perspectives. The method used is a PRISMA-based Systematic Literature Review of 39 Scopus-indexed articles from the period 2020–2026. The results show that computational modeling—particularly optimization, simulation, and economic analysis—plays a crucial role in enhancing operational efficiency, logistics coordination, as well as cost and sustainability performance. The integration of technical and economic approaches allows for a more comprehensive evaluation of supply chain performance. The implication is that strengthening digital analytics and an integrated framework is necessary to support the governance and development of a sustainable palm oil supply chain.
