Health Benefits and Safety Profile of Palm Oil Bioactive Constituents in Chronic Disease Prevention: A Systematic Review
This journal reviews the health benefits and safety profile of bioactive compounds in palm oil, particularly tocotrienols, tocopherols, and carotenoids, in the context of chronic disease prevention. Using the PRISMA-based systematic literature review method, this study selected 40 scientific articles from Scopus and PubMed for the period 2020–2026. The review results indicate that bioactive compounds in palm oil play a role in antioxidant activity, inflammation control, metabolism regulation, lipid profile improvement, and potential neuroprotection. The evidence reviewed also shows a good safety profile at dietarily relevant consumption levels. The implication is that palm oil should be evaluated based on evidence and within the context of a whole diet, not just its fat content, while still encouraging long-term clinical research and dosage standardization.
