Integrating Emerging Technologies in Telemedicine: A Systematic Literature Review of Health Informatics Advances
This journal discusses the development of telemedicine increasingly influenced by new technology, but its integration into health informatics still faces challenges of effectiveness, data security, and system sustainability. This study aims to examine the contribution of emerging technologies to telemedicine services and provide a synthesis of evidence for academics, practitioners, and policymakers. Using the PRISMA-based Systematic Literature Review method, the research analyzes 30 Scopus articles from the period 2020–2025 through qualitative thematic coding. The findings identify seven main themes, namely AI, IoT and wearable devices, blockchain, cloud computing, virtual and augmented reality, interoperability and regulatory challenges, and hybrid system models. These technologies have the potential to improve diagnostic accuracy, patient monitoring, data security, and service efficiency, but still require strong ethical governance, regulation, and technical readiness.
