Systematic Literature Review on SLR-Based Articles: Challenges and Issues

March 11, 2026664 views

This article discusses the increasing use of Systematic Literature Review (SLR) as a method for synthesizing knowledge across disciplines, while also highlighting the methodological challenges that arise with the growth of SLR-based publications. The research aims to identify and categorize various methodological issues in SLR studies, particularly in meta-reviews and reviews of reviews. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review of Scopus-indexed journal articles from the period 2019–2025, with a structured selection process resulting in 37 studies analyzed through thematic synthesis. The research findings reveal six main challenges, including inconsistencies in literature search strategies, limitations in the transparency of the selection process, weaknesses in study quality assessment, issues in data extraction and synthesis, non-compliance with PRISMA reporting standards, and the risk of cumulative bias. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening methodological standards and research transparency to ensure that SLR remains credible as a basis for evidence-based decision-making.
