Robotic Digital Twins in Smart Manufacturing: Resolving Real-Time Synchronization Gaps

April 20, 2026352 views

This research is motivated by the increasing use of Robotic Digital Twins (RDT) in smart manufacturing, which demands real-time synchronization between physical and digital systems. The study aims to identify the main challenges and technical solutions related to this synchronization gap. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on PRISMA of 43 recent publications. The results reveal six main obstacles, including latency, data inconsistency, and interoperability issues, which affect the accuracy and reliability of the system. Various solutions such as time-sensitive networking, edge computing, and AI-based predictive control have proven effective in enhancing synchronization. Policy implications emphasize the importance of system standardization, technology integration, and the development of unified architecture to support the efficiency, resilience, and sustainability of the smart manufacturing industry.
