Indonesia Palm Oil Strategic Studies (IPOSS) organized the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Palm Oil Sustainability Framework 2026 – Phase 1 on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Jakarta. This FGD discussed strengthening spatial planning based on a fit-for-purpose approach and the concept of regional carrying capacity, which is expected to be the initial foundation for formulating a sustainable oil palm plantation framework.

The discussion featured a panel of cross-disciplinary experts who highlighted the role of oil palm not only as a strategic commodity but also as part of regional development and food and energy security, amidst various environmental challenges and extreme climate conditions as recently experienced in Sumatra. The event was opened by the IPOSS Supervisory Board, Darmin Nasution and Sofyan Djalil. This FGD is the initial phase in the development of the Palm Oil Sustainability Framework 2026, which will be further developed through a series of thematic discussions and IPOSS policy publications.
